The promise of 5G networks has been on our radar for some time now, but it’s safe to say that the advancement is beginning to pick up speed and prompt global manufacturers to opt for compatible handset designs. So, with Apple,Samsung, LG, Google and Motorola already marketing their 5G-compatible phones, we’re likely to see a swift change in consumer purchase and upgrade preferences.

Yet whilst the notion of a mobile upgrade is not unusual in the slightest, this switch to 5G is perhaps the biggest advancement the mobile industry has witnessed in decades – meaning that demand and benefits will be starkly different to our past experiences. And, with what we already know, it’s no wonder that consumers are ready to part with their pennies in order to get their hands on the long-awaited devices.

So, what are the benefits of 5G smartphones?

Enhanced Speed

Most prominently, 5G will provide users with fast-paced and reliable internet experiences, with a significant advancement from the speeds of 4G. The network has proven to be approximately 10 times as fast as 4G by Vodafone, and networks such as EE have hinted at further improved speeds!

So users will no longer be waiting for shows, social feeds or text conversations to buffer, load or send. It will all be completed in a matter of seconds. Our digital communication means will be improved and we’ll be able to stream and send live video in high-definition – which as we resort back into our home working setups could be more than appreciated.

Improved Connectivity

5G is also set to change the world beyond mobile phones – allowing individuals to sync up almost every aspect of their daily lives – surpassing the desire for fast download or upload ability alone.

For example, 5G is set to connect cars with other cars, drones, traffic lights and road sensors. This will mean that communication issues become a notion of the past, car accidents become less frequent and traffic jams are an unusual occurrence.

An irresistible reality for any individual!

Optimised Everyday Features

A frustration for any mobile user has often been phone calls that have been disrupted, cut out or plagued by poor quality definition. With 5G, this isn’t likely to be a problem – meaning that those long-distance calls won’t need to to be few and far between.

In a similar vein, 5G is also said to change how mobile batteries function. Battery life has been heavily considered in the tech sector, but 5G’s low latency is set to make that a conversation of the past.

What This All Means

Understanding that the introduction of 5G networks will impact consumer preferences and purchasing habits is by no means irrelevant. But, what will this actually mean for mobile insurers?

Well, the long-awaited network will be exclusive to compatible handsets, as previously mentioned, which means that individuals across the globe will be prompted to invest in new devices in order to benefit from the advanced features. And so, consumers can now feel safe that they may upgrade without risk of buying into an older, incompatible model for the next few years.

And, after months of disruption and connectivity issues, it’s safe to say that demand for these advancements will be great – proving both timely and beneficial. Therefore, mobile phone distributors both to consumers and businesses should expect to see, and prepare for, a greater and continued demand for new technology.

As a result, phone insurance, as well as alternate gadget insurance, will similarly become an essential consideration as consumers look to protect their new purchases. Because, if recent experience has taught us anything, preparation is paramount.
